Goat Face Girl - Ten Yetman
Goat Face Girl / 2024 / Ten Yetman (Winnipeg, Canada) / Acrylic and Ink on Canvas / 5 × 7 inches
“Inspired by the Italian Fairy Tale "Goat Faced Girl" about a giant Lizard that adopts a daughter (Renzolla) and brings her to live in her palace. The Lizard gets angry when not shown proper thanks from Renzolla and turns the head of her adopted human daughter into a goat's head.”
Ten Yetman is a visual artist born in Winnipeg, Canada. After attending the Fine Arts Program at the University of Manitoba (2004-2009) she spent many years living in Mexico City and afterwards in Nagoya, Japan teaching art classes and exhibiting her work.
Heavily influenced by her experiences abroad, her work explores cultural and historical expressions of death and immortality. After moving back to Canada in 2013 she has been continuing to paint and exhibit work both in Canada and the United States.
Ten's work is a hyper-juxtaposition, constantly referencing both "comforting" bright colours and patterns, candies and sweets, parties and beach scenes, along with "uncomfortable" images of horror.
